Salmo 139:16

Psalm 139:16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book all my days were recorded, even those which were purposed before they had come into being. Reina-Valera 1960

This verse highlights God's sovereignty, knowledge and intimate care over every human being, even before birth. It teaches us that God has a purpose for every life, from conception, and that His plan is perfect and detailed.

Holy Father, keep, bless and strengthen whoever reads this short message given to us by your sacred scriptures.

When Luciano Pavarotti was a child, his grandmother often told him, “Will you be great, will you see?” His grandmother's dreams, however, were to see him become a great banker. Instead, Pavarotti was a teacher, teaching for a time at an elementary school and singing on special occasions.

His father was the one who really motivated him to develop his voice, claiming that he could do better every time he sang, because he had more potential. Finally, at the age of 22, Pavarotti stopped teaching to sell insurance and continued to look for something stable where he could support himself financially, in case he did not succeed in music.

Once, in an interview, she said, “Studying singing was the turning point in my life. It's a mistake to continue in the life of the safe path.” He further added with a wink in his eyes, “My teacher prepared me, but no teacher ever told me I was going to be famous, only my grandmother did.”

As I read Pavarotti's story, I reflected that we definitely need courage to leave a position we consider safe and start a new direction. If you don't dare to take a risk, you will never discover your true potential or know what God intended you to be.

Let us remember that we cannot discover new oceans if we do not have the courage to lose sight of the shore. We must keep rowing, we must keep moving forward. As the Word of God says in Psalm 139:16: “You saw me before I was born; every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was designed before a single day passed.”

God's thoughts about you are the best. The point is to take a chance. I love to affirm with words to the little ones in our care, our children and grandchildren, telling them that they should be happy, achieve their dreams and that they are wise, smart and God-fearing. I didn't have those affirmations as a child, but one day I learned that I had an eternal Father who has the best plans for me.

Practical applications of Psalm 139:16

    1. Confidence in God's plan
Knowing that God has a purpose for us from before we were born invites us to live in faith, even when we face uncertainty or challenges.
    2. Affirming the value of life
This verse calls us to respect life in all its stages, from conception to natural death. It is a biblical foundation for defending the dignity and care of every human being.
    3. Living with purpose
If God wrote "our days" in His book, it means that our life is not an accident. We are called to seek His will and live in obedience to His purpose for us.

How can we discover what God has planned for each of us? Within you beats strongly that for which you were designed: what you enjoy, your skills, and your gifts. However, sometimes you don't develop them because you cling to something secure, just as Pavarotti did with his job in insurance. Nevertheless, he took a risk and changed his destiny because he had a talent and a gift.

    1. “My embryo saw your eyes”
      • God knows us from before our birth.
The term "embryo" indicates that God was aware of our existence even in the earliest stage of development. This underscores the value and sanctity of human life from conception.
      • God is involved in our formation.
This detail reveals that God not only observes, but is actively involved in designing our lives. This aligns with the context of Psalm 139, which describes how God "knit" us together in our mother’s womb (v. 13).
    2. “In your book were written all those things.”
      • This suggests that God has a definite plan for each person.
In "His book," it refers to God's foreknowledge, His purpose, and the days of our lives. This does not mean that we are determined without freedom, but rather that God's plan is perfect and sovereign.
    3. “They were then formed, without missing one of them.”
      • Here it is emphasized that nothing escapes God's control and purpose.
Every detail of our lives—our body, our personality, and our circumstances—was designed with intention. Nothing happens by chance under His providence.

  • El Salmo 139:16 como fundamento espiritual
